The much - awaited 55thAnnual Sports Day was held on Friday 30thAugust, 2019 at Manohar C Watsa Stadium, IIT Madras with great zeal, excitement, and frolicsome atmosphere. The day started off with the lovely rendition by the choir to pay salutations to the Lord Almighty followed by the Principal, Mr.Sathish Kumar felicitating the chief guest Dr.Sylendra Babu, I.P.S, Director General of Police, Railways,TamilNadu with a bouquet. Shivani.P of XII C,the Sports Secretary, welcomed the gathering.
The chief guest took the salute of the impressive and well synchronized March Past by all the four Houses, coupled with some stirring marching music by the school band. He handed over the Olympic torch to P.Shivani in the presence of the Principal Mr.Sathish Kumar and Vice-Principal Mrs.Princy Tom .The torch was then carried by Bala Ganesh.K ,Sathya Sai Krishnan.M, Ovia.P.R, Geethanjali Vasudevan, Hari Priya.G.R, Sashi Kiran.K and Aravind Akash.K.R who have brought name and fame to our school in the sports field. It was indeed a proud moment for these students to bear the torch and represent the school on this special day. The chief guest’s interactive speech motivated our students to answer his questions and receive a book written by him as a token of appreciation. In his speech to the audience, he emphasized on the importance of sports in a child's life and its immense impact on the minds of youth.
The guest of honour felicitated and encouraged the young achievers. Aravind Akash.K.R, Shivani.P & Sathya Sai Krishnan.M, the State and National level champions in various fields of sports were rewarded a prize amount of Rs.25,000 each on this auspicious occasion.
The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the oath being administered by the Sports Secretary Aravind Akash.K.R. of XII D.The most intriguing aspect of the event was the splendid field display involving mass student participation in Flag drill (std I – III), Aerobic dance(std IV & V),and Rhythmic exercise(std VI to VIII) that set the tone for the rest of the events. The audience was mesmerized with the impressive and well-synchronized movements of the students.
The displays made way for the highly awaited athletic events. Once the races began, the air was filled with cheering and encouragement for the young athletes.The finalist competed in events like sprints and relays. The parents’ event added to the enjoyment amidst thrills, shrills and cheers by the children. The athletic events were entailed by the Annual Report presented by our Physical Director, Mr.K.Selvakumar.
The event culminated with the distribution of prizes to all the winners of the various events by the Chairman, Prof. Arun K.Tangirala. The Best march past trophy was clinched by Yamuna house and the overall champion Shield was awarded to Godavari house. At the end of the programme, the Vote of thanks was proposed by the Assistant sports Secretary, Ashwitha.B of XI C.The school flag was lowered and handed over to the Principal followed by the National Anthem. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish.
